I'm trying to get information on Dorsey Sanderlin I know that he enlisted in W.A Dukes Independent Co and was assigned to 1st Co I 32nd Reg N C Troops and captured at Fort Hatteras someone gave me this information I'm trying to find it online. I was told it was  in vol XIX page 319 but I haven't been successful

Dorsey Sanderlin enlisted by Captain William A. Duke for 12 months in the Jonesboro Guards at Hatteras Inlet on 26 August 1861. He was captured on 29 August 1861 during the battle of Hatteras Inlet and transported aboard the USS Minnesota to Governor's Island where he was imprisoned in Castle William. He was transferred aboard the steamer State of Maine to Fort Warren the first of November 1861. Paroled 3 Feb 1862, he was returned to the Rip Raps (Fort Wool) and held two weeks to keep information on Burnside's Expedition leaving Hampton Roads from  being received before they attacked Roanoke Island.

The Jonesboro Guards were a militia company sent to Hatteras aboard the steamer Stag in early August 1861. They were formed 30 May 1861. Since they had never been mustered into Confederate service, they were mustered in on the 31st after their capture and were assigned to a new regiment having trouble making its compliment of companies. The NC Defenders and Lenoir Braves, Independent companies also captured at Hatteras, were also enrolled in the 32nd NC while in captivity. The Independent Grays of Elizabeth City were also enrolled in the 32nd; they were part of the 7th Regt. NC Volunteers but had never been mustered into NC service prior to the Confederate government taking over on 20 August 1861. As a result, they were assigned to the new 32nd NC as well.

The Jonesboro Guards were declared exchanged on 20 February 1862 and were mustered out after finishing their 12 months service on 2 April 1862. Sanderlin was present at Camden Court House at the mustering out. At that time, the 56th NC Infantry and 59th NC, 4th Cavalry were enlisting men in Camden for new regiments being formed. Dorsey Sanderlin enlisted in the 4th Cavalry, Company G, Captain Demosthenes Bell commanding, on 18 April 1862 at Currituck Court House for the war. This was the day before the battle of South Mills.

Sanderlin was absent on detached duty with Ruffin's Battery sometime during May-June 1862. He was absent without leave sometime during September-October 1863. He was promoted to 3rd Corporal on 31 December 1863. January-February 1864 he was reported as detached to remount. He was listed as 2nd Corporal at that time. He was issued clothes on 20 October 1864.

Sanderlin was captured at Appomattox and paroled 30 April 1865.
